Jesus — “So what does being a nice guy, being spiritual and helping the poor have to do with going to heaven? OK, so it appears that you think God doesn’t care much for lazy people — is that why you are working for your salvation?

Guy — “No, not really. I just think being good helps me get in and it makes me feel good. You know, I want to make myself look good to the Big Guy!”

Jesus — “Well, I have news for you. The Big Guy, as you say, is not impressed by works of any kind in regard to
salvation. Have you ever thought of that?”

Guy — “No, not really. But even you noticed that I am doing alot of good works . . . so how can I get into heaven?”

Jesus — “The problem is not being lazy and it is not about being good enough. The problem is you’re a sinner!”

Guy — “Ah hah, there you go! Getting judgmental on me! You just used that word “sin”. That’s the word I hate so much. I was wondering if you were going to get into all that negative judgmental stuff.”

Jesus — “So you have a problem with being called a sinner?”

Guy –“Yeah, it’s not a word we like to use much around here. Besides, I’m no more of a sinner than anyone else I know.”

Jesus — “You’re correct about that. They’re all sinners too, but you must understand God has a big problem with sin.”

Guy — “So there you go again getting into all that judgment stuff. Why do you have to be so negative? Why can’t we just do nice things and God let us into heaven?”

Jesus — “What does the Bible say about why I died on the cross?”

Guy — “Well, I guess You died for our sins. Right?”

Jesus — “Yes. Since I died for your sins, why are you trying to work your way into heaven? That way to heaven is not
working! It is through accepting Me as your Savior. It is through allowing Me to pay for your penalty. I am God’s Son, I am sinless, and I paid the penalty you could never pay. You must humble yourself and admit your sins to Me and My Father.

Guy — “Well, that’s too easy!”

Jesus — “Well, if it’s so easy then will you do it? Will you humble yourself and allow Me to provide you with eternal life?”

Guy — “Well, it’s kind of embarrassing and I don’t like the humbling part. Couldn’t I just be a nice guy?”

Jesus — “Sure, you can be a nice guy but that is not the way of salvation that My Father planned and I accomplished by My death on the cross. If being good could get you into heaven wouldn’t that make My death, burial and resurrection unnecessary or at least diminished? I did not die on the cross for the fun of it you know.”

Guy — “OK, I get it. That is an interesting point. So if doing good does not save me, how can I know that I’m saved?”

Jesus — “It starts with faith that I died in your place so you could have eternal life. If you believe, pray, telling God, even Me, that you accept My death as payment for your sins. Then invite Me into your life. Salvation and eternal life is a gift to those who believe in Me and receive Me as their Savior and Lord. To have confidence that you are saved read and study the Bible, then trust what it says. Be sure to find my followers and join a Bible study. Trust Me, it’ll be fun!”

1 John 5:11-13 “And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Will you repent of your works of righteousness and ask Jesus into your heart today – so you can have eternal life?
To do so, pray a prayer like this: Lord, I admit that I have done many bad things. I desire your salvation that is through your Son, Jesus. The Bible says, “he (or she) who has the Son has the life”. Lord, I ask you to come into my life and make me new. I ask You to forgive my sins and make me one of your children. Lead me from this day forward and give me peace. Amen.
